Section 31

Welcome listeners, to the latest episode of 10Backward, where we discuss Section 31. Are they the Federation’s secret saviours or secret shame? We analyse the ideas behind them, the real world inspirations and what this says about the utopian vision of the future.

One Little Ship

The 10Backward crew, (with the oddest feeling that something is missing) gather to discuss what could be considered DS9’s most daring efforts, the little ship… that took a little trip.

In Defence of Insurrection

We are joined again by Rob Chapman and Rick and Rob load up with 7 tons of itritium explosives and bazookas to save an innocent, peace loving film from the evil attacks of Will and Richard. But are they so dead set on attacking Insurrection? Can Rick and Rob truly muster any defence of this film? It’s much maligned, is this fair or unfair?

All Good Things

It’s the 30th Anniversary year of Star Trek: The Next Generation! We recently examined the pilot, Encounter at Farpoint and felt it was only right to follow up with a look at the series finale, All Good Things.

Sorry about the cockney accent.

And sorry about Picard’s pyjamas…

Just sorry.

Enterprise Season 1 Retrospective – Part 3

The third and final part of the 10Backward trip down memory lane into the first season of Enterprise. Has it been a long road, getting from there to here? Sorry… couldn’t resist! We wrap up the season with our lowpoints, our thoughts on the temporal cold war and our final thoughts.

Enterprise Season 1 Retrospective – Part 1

The 10Backward crew have a fondness for exploring the more maligned aspects of Trek and Enterprise has certainly come in for it’s share of criticism over the years. So in finest 10Backward tradition and with the approach of the first new Star Trek series in over a decade, we go back to the beginning of our Trek through the stars and have a look at Enterprise’s first season.

It will come as no shock that we had so much to say that this is

episode 1 of 3 of this Enterprise retrospective. Here we discuss the pilot, Broken Bow and begin looking at the characters.

The Savage Curtain

The 10Backward crew look at the Original Series episode, The Savage Curtain. An alien culture forces the crew into a battle between good and evil to study the concept. While not considered a highlight of the show, this episode does grant us some iconic figures in Trek lore. We try to reconcile how a less favoured episode can give us the enduring Surak and Kahless and see if we can discuss the Excalbian rock monster without noting his similarity to… well you know.

For this task, we recruited our first guest, Rob Chapman! Big thanks to Rob for joining us. Rob can be found on Twitter @trekkierob where I am still apologising to him for bringing him in on this topic of all the topics!

One of Our Planets is Missing

10Backward makes another foray into the world of Star Trek, The Animated Series. Once again we randomly select an episode, this time coming up with One of Our Planets is Missing. What will we find?

War! Part 3 – Deep Space 9 and the Dominon War

10Backward return to our examination of War in Star Trek. After looking over TOS, TNG, VOY and ENT, we head to the Bajor sector to see how War is portrayed on Deep Space 9.
